A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MARTHA JEAN SEABROOK AS A WOMAN OF '99 "POWER OF ONE" HONOREE.

WHEREAS, Governor and Mrs. Fordice are hosting the third annual conference to recognize women in the state who are outstanding volunteers in their community, which is entitled MISSISSIPPI WOMAN '99: THE "POWER OF ONE"; and

WHEREAS, Martha Jean Seabrook is one of this year's honorees; and

WHEREAS, Martha Jean Seabrook is the administrative secretary and office manager in the pediatric Cardiology Department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, it is widely agreed that her contributions to the work of that department go far beyond what would be expected of her job description; and

WHEREAS, her goal has not been to be prominent in her own right, but to let her light shine by supporting others in their work; and

WHEREAS, the role she prefers is as an organizer, facilitator and expeditor, choosing to be the right arm of the department; and

WHEREAS, she is a "light" among the children as she ministers to the pediatric patients; and

WHEREAS, in recognition, she was recognized in the medical center's eternal light program, called the "Light-a-Light" ceremony; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Seabrook has been a charter member of two organizations: Mended Hearts of Mississippi, a heart surgery patient support group, and the Assistance League of Jackson, a philanthropic organization; and

WHEREAS, she credits her mother for teaching her the organization skills that have been such a blessing both to her and to others; and

WHEREAS, she is thankful for her marriage of 36 years to Bill Seabrook, and for their two children and grandchild; and

WHEREAS, she has lived by the precept that, in all she does, she is working for the glory of God; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this body to recognize the honors and achievements of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Martha Jean Seabrook for the honor bestowed upon her as a Woman of '99 "Power of One" honoree.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Martha Jean Seabrook and Mrs. Pat Fordice at the conference awards banquet on March 1, 1999, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
